4. All members are required to give one demonstration at the beef project meeting on the topic that was drawn at the first meeting. This demonstration is to be done between the October and February meetings. One demonstration will also be required at the general meeting. Any additional demonstrations can be about any topic and are optional. The demonstration must be accompanied with the information in writing and dated for all other members to have.

Group Participation:
1. As the name implies, Chaparral 4-H Beef is a “group” or “team” effort.
2. The members will set goals and directions, with the assistance of the Teen leaders, junior leaders and Project leaders.
3. The Beef group spends approximately $180.00 per animal per year to purchase, repair and maintain basic equipment required to compete at the Mid-State Fair and cover costs of shavings, displays and other expenses while at the fair.
If this money is not raised after the second fundraiser, remaining balance is due within two weeks or you will not be able to show at mid-state fair.
4. Since this benefits all the members of the group, it is only fair that everyone participates in any given fundraiser.
5. As a result, each member must be responsible for doing one of these three things.
1. Participate in the various group fundraisers. 20% of money fund raised goes the to general fund
2. Pay the difference between the amount raised and the minimum of $180.
3. Pay the entire $180 plus 20% to the general fund.
6. A budget for the year detailing the minimum anticipates expenses at the fair will be submitted to the membership for a vote by the September Meeting.
7. Due to the extreme cost of the beef equipment another fundraiser will be voted on by the members to fundraise for equipment separate from the $180 required.
8. Every member has a say about all beef group functions including all activities, fundraisers, meetings, and how the groups’ money is spent. So if you have new ideas, concerns or questions please bring them up to a project leader or at a meeting.
Parent Participation:
1. Part of the goals of 4-H is to promote interaction between the parent, child and family.
2. Ideally the project should become a family project with the 4-H member taking care of the animal’s day to day needs with the support of his or her parents.
3. Parents who “take over” the project for the 4-H member are doing him or her a disservice.
4. Parents who do not get involved with 4-H members and their projects are doing themselves a disservice.
5. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to attend all group meetings.
6. Parents help during the year for weighing, fundraising, showmanship practices , etc. Are greatly appreciated.
7. Parents help is also needed for various things during the fair if their schedule permits.
Leaders Roles:
1. It is not the project leaders or any other member’s role to take on any duties associated with the day to day needs of a member’s animal. This would include feeding, weighing and or veterinary duties.
2. Leaders will assist you in putting together a feeding plan. They will, within their abilities, diagnose and help treat stressed or ill animals. However, it will be the responsibilities of the animal’s owner to follow up with day to day needs or treatment.
Obligations at the fair:
1. Each member is required to be available the entire week of the fair. If you are working during the fair you must provide us your schedule prior to the start of the fair.
2. While at the fair you are an Exhibitor, with your beef animal being the Exhibit. Many people come to the barns to see the animal during the course of the fair. For many this is the only time they see 4-H members and their animals. The impression you leave will be a long lasting one, so let’s make it a positive one. Your animals, stalls and area around our blocking chutes must be neat and clean at all times. We need to be courteous and respectful of other people at all times.( Remember your buyers may be there to look at your animal. Unruly behavior of horseplay will not be tolerated.)
3. Cleaning of pens begin at 6am. All dirty shaving shall be removed and new shavings replaced. Pen cleaning must be complete by 7am. Feeding times are 7am and 5pm. In addition to feeding times all members will be assigned barn duty. Duty times will be scheduled by the project leader. All members must be at the barns at these times to care for all the clubs animals. Failure to be at the barns at the above mentioned times may result additional barn duty being assigned and a fine of .25 cents per minute you are not there.
4. You must groom and fit your own animal without parent and / or leader help. Beef
should be bathed in the afternoon prior to show days. Members may not wear flip- flops or open toed at any time in the barns. Heavy shoes or rubber boots are required when working with your animal.
5. The official 4-H uniform must be worn for market judging, showmanship, auction, auction runner, refreshment server, or other activities representing 4-H.
6. At market judging, showmanship and auction days a buddy system will be used. Group members or leaders will be expected to help each other get to and from the ring. No member is to leave the barn before all other members have finished the scheduled activities for that day and excused by the leader.
7. Sales checks from the auction will be distributed after the fair at the “End of Fair” party. Group members must have completed all buyers’ thank you letters and settled all debits to the club, including fines, prior to receiving their checks.
Note: This is a rough guide only; more information will be given out at all meetings. If there are any questions please call one of the leaders anytime. We are here to help.
